‘08 predictions, anyone?
I know you’ve all been waiting anxiously. Or at least I’ll tell myself that. Reasoning, analysis, and defending myself from the beating I’m going to take from some of you for placing the Astros 5th in a 6-team divison in my next post.
So, without further ado:

I fully admit the Cardinals prediction is a HUUUUGE stretch. Enormous. Blind loyalty? Mostly. But I actually do think they’re going to do far better than all the so-called experts are saying (most any take you read have them in 5th or 6th). I think Schumaker and Ankiel are going to big offensive upgrades from what they had from their OF a year ago. I’m hoping for bounce-backs from Glaus and Kennedy. Izturis will remind Cardinals fans of how a major league shortstop is supposed to play defense. The bullpen will again be very good. Of course, as we all know, it’s their starting pitching that’s the biggest problem, but then again it’s not real strong anywhere else in this division after you get past team aces. Judging by Wainwright’s second-half last year, I think he’s going to be a 17-18 game winner. I’m hoping Duncan can work some magic with Lohse. Um… Ok, even I can’t come up with much beyond that, other than hoping we can get SOMETHING out of Mulder and Carpenter on down the road.
I think Cincy’s going to be a real surprise team this year and Milwaukee’s going to take a step back. Cubs have a ton of talent on offense, but their bullpen sucks.
Your Astros? BFD said it himself, you guys are getting really old with your core players and can expect some trips to the DL or guys falling off from their old norms. I don’t see much starting pitching at all with you guys, either–much like with St. Louis.

Bigwood? You must be hammered. Their pitching is horrible, Glaus won’t play more than 120 games, and the rest of the offense is offensive.

Fuck it. If we can have main posts that predict the Cards winning the division, then I say the Astros are going to win 97 games.
Sure everyone else is predicting 75-80, but that’s how I roll.

I can’t take anymore of your posts seriously and this is only your first one. I’m the biggest ’stros fan in the world but I won’t pick them to finish first. Face it dude, the Cards are not even going to win 70 games this year.

Can we start printing up the headline for when Dusty makes Aaron Harang’s arm fall off?
I think the Central is wide open; each team’s success depends on either rookies/heretofore disappoimtments stepping up, the ability to stay healthy, and coaching. Hell, no team even has much of a park advantage: they’re all bandboxes now, with the possible exception of Milwaukee.
Is Bernie’s slide is fair territory? It should be.
