4/24 - Reds vs. Astros
Unfortunately, because I’m at work and even though I live 150 miles from Houston, the Reds/Stros game at 11 CDT will be blacked out on mlb.tv.
Because of that, I’ll be missing a fantastic matchup between the Astros en fuego offense versus one of the hottest young arms in the league, Johnny Cueto. I’ve been able to watch two of Cueto’s starts, and he is delightful to watch.
Also, I hope to be able to post a little more soon. Damn kids got me sick, and I have been fighting some horrendous crap the last couple of days. Ugh.

That’s why I dropped MLB.tv last year. Even though I live in Philly right now - their games kept being blacked out for ridiculous reasons.
Also - who is Cassel?

Cassel is very much your classic “organizational soldier” who got his debut in SD last year at 27 yo. K-rate of only 6.5/9IP in the minors, and was mostly used as a reliever until 2006. Lifetime minor league WHIP of 1.44 with an ERA of 4.11. A 4.50 ERA and 1.6ish WHIP as a major leaguer should be your expectation.

After last night, if Cassel can keep it under 6 runs and make it 5+ innings, that’d probably be enough.
Also, good to see that Hunter is almost back to form. Once Wigginton is back, we’ll finally be on all cylinders.

Looks like a pitcher’s battle.

I’m kicking back, watching the game today. Darin Erstad is proving to be a pretty nice pickup, thus far.
The announcers keep talking about how good we are at getting runs with two outs… pretty impressive, actually. We’re 4th or 5th in the league in that department.

I’ll take three over five from a guy fresh out of the minors any day.
Oh, and Pence has brought his average up a hundred points from where it was this time last week. And if he could do the same thing over the course of the next week, he’d almost reach Tejada’s BA.
I love this offense.

Wow, another one-two-three ninth from Valverde. Things are looking up.

“Just when I think I’m out… they pull me back in!”
Oh baseball. You are a cruel and teasing mistress.

@pretty impressive, actually. We’re 4th or 5th in the league in that department.
Considering how awful we’ve been over the last 5 years at that, I like it a LOT

Guh…I hear ya re: MLBTV. I live in Little Rock and have the Cardinals, Royals, Rangers, and Stros ALL blacked out. We don’t even have a team and you’re forcing me out of FOUR bordering state games?!
Cards/Stros Round 2…delayed. Womp, womp…
April 25th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Isringhausen blows it. Tejada’s a Cardinal killer.

I love it! This team has shown some serious heart during the streak. Now if Latino Lidge can just hold the lead… Pujols is in the hole, yikes.

Do you walk him here? It’s certainly something to consider.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Good call, methinks. No reason to pitch to one of the best hitters in the game… Make somebody else beat you.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
It’s probably the smart play, but I hate that we’re walking him. I mean, I know it’s Valverde and he’s struggled, but I dunno. I just want to see us man up!
April 25th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Woo freakin’ hoo. Scary, but successful save by Jose. Yeah!!
April 25th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I love the way we handled that. The Cards had things going the way they wanted with an infield single, steal, and man on third with one out. That Ankiel strike-out was big. Not to mention the timely hitting in the top of the 9th. Looks like we’re finally finding a way to win instead of lose.
That was a long climb up from 6-12 though. And once again, poor Chacon. Is anybody in the majors pitching better than he is right now? He has averaged 7 IP per start over five starts now with a 2.45 ERA, and he’s 0-0.

Money. Money. Clutch.
Hats off to Erstad that was bigtime. Tejada continues to show how nasty he is. Lance and Carlos were amazing as well(obviously). Good save by Valverde.
This team has heart and the Chacon signing looks better every start. great win.
.500 and climbing bitches.
