Very cool story coming out that Former Baylor basketball player Isaiah Austin is cleared to play basketball. Austin was unique because he was a productive college basketball player despite being legally blind in his right eye. So naturally he was the feel good story of the 2014 NBA Draft.
Then tragically days before the 2014 NBA Draft, he was diagnosed Marfan syndrome, which a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues that hold together all of the body’s cells and organs. Essentially doctors were worried arteries would rupture while playing basketball.
One of the many things the NBA has done right since Adam Silver took office as commissioner was honor Austin by “drafting” him. Onion cutting type moment where a kid’s dream was crushed just days before being able to walk on stage. Just a terrible break in a list of bad breaks for the kid so close to what would’ve been one of the best days in his life.
Now it appears he has a second chance to make his dream come true. And, I couldn’t be rooting harder for him.
